How to download Youtube Video and Audio

Since I became a youtuber I started to watch a lot of youtube videos and I often want to comment on something, or show a quote from a video that I want to link to or talk about. So I needed a way to download videos. I am editing in mobile primarily, So I’ve been using a screen recorder to record youtube while I was playing it on my screen. Unfortunately you cannot record internal audio on android. So the audio you record goes via the phone’s external audio and gets recorded really soft and distorted. And good sound quality is really important on youtube. So I needed another way to download videos.

So I searched Google and found wikihow.com/Download-YouTube-Videos. Now, this might not be the simplest solution out there, but it does work on mobile. Or actually, If you hack wikihow’s solution, then it works on mobile as well. And I like this solution because you don’t need to install anything and if you use it often enough, it is simple enough to remember.

Here’s how it works on mobile:

  • Go to youtube and copy the URL.
  • Now go to your browser and paste the url.
  • Now look at the URL below and fix the URL you pasted to match it. Don’t change the video code ofcourse ! https://www.vdyoutube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ
  • Select the video or audio format you want et voila! – Easy peasy

Next step – mixing it in with your own videos.

Don’t let that vlogging dip make you quit!

Now here’s an interesting video. I recognize this and I think last week I was at that quitting point. That’s good news, because that means that from here on, things can only move up.

Even before I started vlogging I new I needed to make the process of vlogging as easy as possible, to avoid quitting just because I wanted things which were impossible. This meant I had to accept the limitations I had to work with and the consequences this would have for the quality of what I’d produce. Unfortunately the quality is exactly which is going to determine the success of your productions and therefore it was also the source of my dip.

In the past months I have heard youtubers say very contradicting things: quality over quantity vs. only post what you’re proud of.

Now I’m not proud of any of the vlogs I made until now and that is why I haven’t been promoting them like I now you should, if you want to grow your channel. So there lies the source of my discomfort and the solution as well: I need to step up and improve my videos if I really want to play this game. I have seen sufficient other youtubers catching much more attention than I have. It really made me lose some confidence.

At the same time, I have had a few videos which attracted more viewers than the rest, which confirms that the format which I had in my head when I started should work in the long run. The problem is how to get there. How to create what I want within the time and space limitations I face. The answer, I fear, is just like with all the rest I do: just do it.
